Aramco’s Commitment to Next-Generation Education: Aramco STEAM Challenge

Aramco believe in the power of education to shape a better future. As part of our commitment to social responsibility and community development, Aramco Asia Japan (AAJ) supports “Aramco STEAM Challenge,” a project in partnership with the NPO Code for Everyone. This initiative aims to address the shortage of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) educational materials in middle and high schools across Japan.

At the kickoff ceremony, students from Machida Municipal Minaminaruse Junior High School, joined Abdullah Jastaniah, Representative Director of Aramco Asia Japan (third from the left in the back row) and Mr. Tonegawa, CEO of the nonprofit organization Code for Everyone.

Empowering 5,000 Students Nationwide

The “Aramco STEAM Challenge” is designed to deliver essential hardware-based STEAM education to 5,000 middle and high school students nationwide. Recognizing the importance of hands-on learning, we are providing 40 selected schools with the necessary tools to foster curiosity and creativity beyond the computer screen. This project not only enhances students’ knowledge but also prepares them to tackle real-world problems, equipping them with critical problem-solving skills for the future.

Supporting Educators and Promoting Diversity

Understanding the challenges faced by educators, we have dedicated 20% of the selected slots to support female teachers and 10% to assist new teachers. This initiative aims to address gender imbalances in the technology field and provide opportunities for less experienced educators to thrive. Feedback from participating teachers highlights the significant impact of this support, enabling them to bring practical STEAM education to their classrooms.

These STEAM materials will be distributed to 5,000 middle and high school students.

Real-World Learning Through Hardware

During the kickoff ceremony held in July, students participated in a mock class where they engaged in projects that brought their learning to life. They built plant factories using moisture sensors and created treasure chests that open automatically with servo motors. Although they had previously used Scratch for programming, this was their first experience with programming sensors and actuators. The hands-on approach not only enhanced their understanding of technology but also inspired them to explore new ways to improve their daily lives and communities.

A Shared Vision for the Future

Abdullah A. Jastaniah, AAJ representative director emphasized the importance of nurturing the next generation: “We believe in the power of education to shape a better future. Our goal is to empower the future innovators. Together, let’s embrace new challenges and build a brighter future.” This vision aligns perfectly with Code for Everyone’s mission to make technology education accessible and enjoyable for all. These are fundamental strategic priorities for us to achieve our long-term objectives.

Through the “Aramco STEAM Challenge,” AAJ is not only contributing to the immediate educational needs of students but also investing in the long-term development of a skilled and innovative workforce. We are excited to see the positive changes this initiative will bring and remain committed to supporting education and community development.
