Abdullah Jastaniah, Representative Director, Aramco Asia Japan K.K. and Yuta Tonegawa, Director, Code for Everyone

Aramco Asia Japan K.K. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Abdullah Jastaniah; hereinafter “AAJ”) and Code for Everyone (Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Representative Director: Yuta Tonegawa) are collaborating on the Aramco STEAM Challenge, a program which aims to promote STEAM education, particularly in public junior high and high schools. The new program was launched with a grand kick-off ceremony at Machida City Minami Naruse Junior High School on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.

The Aramco STEAM Challenge will provide free hardware teaching materials (“STEAM teaching materials”) to help 5,000 middle and high school students nationwide to develop skills for problem solving through practical learning. The program also aims to provide ongoing support to teachers by offering individual consultations, lesson planning support, and review sessions to address the challenges they face, with the aim of building a better future through education.

The kick-off ceremony was attended by AAJ Representative Director Abdullah Jastaniah, educators, and 12 students from Minami Naruse Junior High School. H.E. Dr. Ghazi Faisal S. Binzagr, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia attended as a guest of honor. Jastaniah presented the school with STEAM teaching materials to be used in the project.

In addition, a mock class was held by instructors from Code for Everyone, where students and others involved in the project experienced hands-on learning to solve familiar life issues, using the materials.

Abdullah Jastaniah, Representative Director, Aramco Asia Japan K.K., said:“We believe that the true value of energy lies in its potential to serve the needs of human progress and development. The Aramco STEAM Challenge is an initiative that reflects our goal to foster innovation and critical thinking among the youth. Through this partnership with Code for Everyone, we aim to ignite a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics in students, equipping them with the necessary skills to thrive in the future. We believe that by nurturing young minds today, we are investing in the pioneers of tomorrow who will lead the way in solving the world's most pressing challenges. This collaboration is in full alignment with the goals of our Global Citizenship Strategy at Aramco.”

Yuta Tonegawa, Director, Code for Everyone, said:Since we founded Code for Everyone, we have been working to address the need for information education throughout Japan. In the "FY2022 Survey on Programming Education and High School "Information I" in Japan" conducted by us, difficulty in teaching and class development; lack of teacher expertise; and lack of teaching materials and resources were cited as the top issues in teaching middle school and technology students. We hope that our relationship with AAJ will enable us to provide classes in which students can exercise their creativity on their own initiative.”
